There were no off-nights with Isaiah Moses. The Dimond senior guard kept his foot on the pedal throughout the Alaska Airlines Classic.
He poured in 90 points in three tournament games, capped by a 42-point performance in the championship game.
He is the sixth Alaskan to win MVP honors in the tournament’s 20-year history.
ven though the Lynx didn’t win the title, Moses earned Classic MVP honors as a nod to his outstanding individual scoring effort.
The 6-footer also had 25 points in 25 minutes against Barrow in the first round and 23 points in 24 minutes against West in the semifinals.
Moses had 90 of Dimond’s 204 points in the Classic.
His 42 points flirted with the tournament record of 49 set in 2016 by West’s Da’Zhon Wyche. His 90 tournament points were the most for an Alaskan since Wyche’s 96 in 2016. Former East star Trajan Langdon scored 92 points in 1992.
The tournament record for scoring is 98 points set in 1990 by Doug Annison of Bishop Sullivan, Louisiana.
he all-tournament team also featured the Big 3 from Trinity (NV) in Daishen Nix, Jackson Pillich and Jan Madi Njock. They combined for 56 points in Trinity’s 70-63 win over Dimond in the championship game.
Nix was the catalyst, igniting the Thunder early in the title game by having a hand in 11 points during a 19-0 run in the first quarter. And then playing closer late in the fourth quarter with beautiful back-to-back buckets to seal the deal.
